About us
The Mildmay Colours is a warm, welcoming, village pub, run by tenants Ian Charron and Sharon Smith, and supported by the community of Holbeton. Ian is French Canadian and has worked as a chef for over twenty years, in France, Germany, Quebec and the UK. Sharon is a theatre maker and loves to combine creative projects with great food and drink in a traditional pub ambience. We share our lives with our daughter Charlie and our dog Storm.
In the summer of 2019, the Mildmay Colours closed and was starting to fall into disrepair. By November it was purchased by a small group of Holbeton residents who wanted to offer a village pub to the community once again. It reopened at Christmas, but was forced to close in March 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. This actually presented an opportunity to continue with refurbishment, and the pub opened again in August 2020. We took over in December 2023, and gave the interior a new look before opening in time for Christmas.
We specialise in Devon ales and ciders, and serve a tempting range of locally sourced, home-cooked food. We have a lovely terrace area that overlooks the village and the countryside beyond - ideal for the for the warmer weather. Inside we have a fabulous log burner for those colder months - ideal to help you warm up after a walk in the beautiful countryside that surrounds our village.

We are multi-generational, inclusive, family and dog friendly. We very much look forward to welcoming you!
Food and drink at the Colours
At The Mildmay Colours, we believe in the importance of fresh, quality ingredients. That's why we strive to source locally whenever possible, supporting our community and ensuring that every bite is bursting with flavour. From farm-fresh vegetables to succulent meats, each ingredient is chosen with a commitment to excellence.

As a free house, we are able to hand-pick the ales and lagers we sell, and with five or six on tap most of the time, we aim to satisfy even the most discerning palate. Our ciders hail from the renowned Sandford Orchards in Devon; as an independent, family-owned brewery they expertly craft their ciders using apples from their own orchards. For lovers of gin, we have some delightful local options from renowned distilleries in Devon, along with a good range spirits from further afield.

If you haven't already done so, come and pay us a visit! We offer good food, good drink, good company and the warmest of welcomes.
