The Mildmay Colours is a traditional village pub located in the heart of a small, quiet, picture postcard village nestled in the beautiful South Devon countryside. We are passionate about providing a warm and friendly welcome and serving local Devon ales and ciders, and delicious home-cooked food.

Holbeton is located just off the A379, halfway between Plymouth and Kingsbridge. We are very close to the beautiful Erme estuary - why not combine your visit with a walk along the fabulous coastal path or relax on Mothecombe Beach? We are very much looking forward to welcoming you!

A big 'Thank You'
As lockdown has finally come to an end, we would like to thank everyone for their continued support over the last 16 months. It has certainly been a challenging period for everyone, not least for those of us in the hospitality industry! Now that we're fully open again, we're able to serve you at the bar, in the garden and on the terrace. Come along and say 'hello'; the warmth of our welcome will match the warmth of the summer weather!

Please note that not all of our staff have been double vaccinated, so our team will continue to wear masks to keep everyone safe. You are welcome to continue to wear a mask indoors if you wish.

We will no longer operate a one-way system in the pub. Food and drinks can now be ordered at the bar (although we will continue to take orders from indoor tables if you prefer).

Full details of the measures we are currently taking are in our Covid policy.

About our pub
We have a lovely terrace area for the warm weather and a fabulous log burner which in the winter months is ideal to warm up by after a walk on our local beaches.

We open for brunch/lunch every Saturday and Sunday. We serve evening meals from Tuesday to Saturday. We source our produce locally as we are keen to support our local economy. We are dog friendly and when it is quiet you may be introduced to our pub dog Merlin.

About us!
The Mildmay Colours is run by husband and wife team Rik and Nicky, formerly proprietors of The Ivy Barn Bed and Breakfast (located behind the pub).

The pub was purchased by a small group of villagers in November 2019. When pubs were closed in March 2020 due to lockdown we decided to refurbish, and after a lot of hard work including the installation of a new kitchen, the pub was reopened at the end of August 2020.

We are pleased with the result, and are very much looking forward to welcoming you.
Food and drink
We have a good range of delicious wines, including some specially selected House options which we think you'll love. Enjoy our exciting range of spirits and liqueurs, including some fabulous flavoured gin, and a range of excellent draft beer, lager and cider.

Due to the Covid crisis, our menu is currently restricted, but as soon as possible we'll be back with a full menu to tempt you with delicious food made from fresh local ingredients.

We pride ourselves in supporting local Devon independent small breweries and serve local ales, lagers and cider.

Covid update
From July 19th there is no limit on numbers meeting inside or outside the pub. We have been really lucky with the weather so you have been able to meet up outside in bigger groups. If we get some rain we are now no longer limited to a table of 6 so you can get together inside as well in bigger groups.

We appreciate all the support we have had over the last 16 months. It certainly has been a challenging period for everyone. We are mindful that everyone will be moving at their own pace over the next few weeks and as a business we have a duty to our staff and customers so will take what precautions we feel are necessary for the time being. As not all of our staff have been double vaccinated our team will continue to wear masks to keep everyone safe. The Government advice is for people to wear masks in confined spaces indoors and if you feel comfortable wearing a mask indoors we are happy to support you.

We have to consider the practicalities of not wearing a mask and if staff are told to self isolate at the moment we risk having to close which we obviously don’t want to do.

We wish to be reassure customers and staff that they will remain safe whilst in the pub and that we will continue to take all necessary hygiene precautions and keep the pub ventilated.

We will no longer have the one way system but ask customers to be sensible and give space to those passing by. If you would like to still wear a mask whilst moving around the pub please feel free to do so.

We are no longer required to do table service but for the time being will still do this inside for those who are seated but you are welcome to come to the bar. Outside on the grass area and terrace there will be no table service for ordering and you can order drinks and food at the bar. We will have a separate area of the bar to do this and a separate area to collect the drinks. If you are sat outside payment will be required each time you order if you are not known to management. For now we will ask customers not to stand and drink at the bar to ensure space for others to come and order and collect drinks and to minimize face to face contact of less than a metre over a prolonged period for staff.

Staff will be asked to wear a mask if customers are wearing a mask or customers request a mask to be warn. We will review the above regularly but please bear with us whilst we wait for all of our staff to be fully vaccinated.
Nicky and Rik - proprietors of The Mildmay Colours - have been running the Ivy Barn B&B - located just by the pub - since 2015. Sadly, their lease has come to an end, and they are not taking any further bookings. It is expected that the property will be used for some form of holiday accommodation in the not-too-distant future, but for the time being it's best to find an alternative. You might like to consider The Grange Bed and Breakfast, Waye Farm, Ermington - 01752 830427.

Nicky and Rik have thoroughly enjoyed the last 6 years welcoming some amazing guests from all over the world, and would like to warmly thank both guests and villagers for their support.
